What is duct cleaning?

Duct cleaning refers to the process of cleaning the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in a building. This includes cleaning the ductwork, vents, and other components to remove dirt, debris, and other pollutants.

Why is duct cleaning important?

Duct cleaning is important for maintaining good indoor air quality and improving the efficiency of your HVAC system. Over time, dust, dirt, and other pollutants can accumulate in the ductwork, which can circulate through the air and cause respiratory issues and other health problems.

How often should I have my ducts cleaned?

The frequency of duct cleaning depends on various factors, including the size of your building, the number of occupants, and the amount of pollutants present in the air. As a general rule, the NADCA recommends having your air ducts cleaned every 3-5 years.

Can I clean my ducts myself?

While cleaning your air ducts yourself is possible, it is not recommended. Proper duct cleaning requires specialized equipment and expertise to ensure effective and safe cleaning.

What is ductwork?

Ductwork refers to the system of pipes or channels used to transport air throughout a building, typically for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) purposes.

What materials are used to make ductwork?

Ductwork can be made from a variety of materials, including sheet metal, fiberglass, flexible plastic, and insulated panels.

How does ductwork work?

Ductwork works by using a fan or blower to circulate air through the system. The air is typically heated or cooled by an HVAC system before being distributed through the ducts to various rooms or areas of a building.

What are the benefits of ductwork?

Ductwork allows for efficient heating and cooling of a building, as well as improved air quality and circulation. It also provides a way to control and regulate the temperature and humidity levels in different areas of a building.

What are some common issues with ductwork?

Common issues with ductwork include leaks, improper sizing, and blockages or obstructions that can reduce airflow and decrease efficiency. It's important to have regular inspections and maintenance performed on your ductwork to ensure it's working properly.

Can ductwork be repaired or replaced?

Yes, ductwork can be repaired or replaced if necessary. Depending on the severity of the issue, repairs may be simple and straightforward, while larger problems may require replacement of sections or even the entire ductwork system.

My air conditioner is running, but my house isn't cooling down. What could be the problem?

There are several potential causes for this issue, including a dirty air filter, thermostat issues, refrigerant leaks, dirty condenser coils, and an undersized air conditioner. Regular air conditioner maintenance can help prevent many of these issues and leaving your family cool all summer long.
